Chinese Waifu Cards: Licensed Kayou vs Doujin Goddess Story Cards

Updated October 4, 2026

The short answer

"Chinese waifu cards" covers two very different things. Kayou is a Chinese collectibles company that prints officially licensed card lines, Naruto among them, sold through mainstream retailers. Goddess Story and its many lookalikes are doujin (fan-made) cards: one box mixes characters from dozens of anime and games with no license from any of them. TCGWaifu tracks the licensed lines and not the doujin ones.

Kayou: the licensed side

Kayou describes itself as China's No. 1 collectibles company, and its trading cards span nearly 100 licensed properties. Its U.S. launch announcement lists officially licensed Naruto, My Little Pony and tokidoki cards, sold in booster packs through mainstream stores including Amazon, GameStop, Target and Walmart.

For waifu collectors, the Naruto line is the one that matters: it is a collect-only line (no game rules) with deep foil tiers, and Hinata and Sakura are its headline heroines. Our Naruto Kayou hub covers its rarity ladder, its best heroine cards and its wave-by-wave sets.

Goddess Story and doujin cards: the unlicensed side

Goddess Story is the best-known name among Chinese doujin waifu cards, and marketplace sellers list it as exactly that: doujin. A single series mixes heroines from Genshin Impact, One Piece, Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online and many other franchises. No rights holder licenses its characters into a box alongside everyone else's, which is the clearest sign the product is fan-made rather than official.

Many similar brands exist, sold almost entirely as marketplace imports, and a share of them are marketed as adult-oriented boxes. TCGWaifu is a PG-13 collector site, so that end of the market is outside our scope.

How to tell licensed from doujin

A few checks settle it before you buy:

  • One franchise per product is the norm for licensed cards. A box mixing characters from many unrelated series is doujin.
  • Licensed lines reach mainstream retailers. A product sold only as overseas marketplace listings, often titled "doujin" or "custom", is fan-made.
  • Licensed cards have a real secondary market with price history. Doujin cards trade as one-off listings, so any "value" is the seller's asking price.

Why we don't track doujin cards

Three reasons. They are unlicensed, and TCGWaifu only covers official products. There is no reliable card list or price data for them: our prices come from marketplace data on official sets, and doujin series have none. And many lines are adult-oriented, which a PG-13 site leaves alone.

If what draws you to Goddess Story is one box with heroines from many series, Weiss Schwarz is the licensed answer: hundreds of franchises, each set officially licensed, with signed SPs as its top tier.
